The conception rate, pregnancy rate and gestational losses in a dairy herd are extremely important indices that demonstrate the reproductive performance of the herd, allowing adjustments and use of biotechniques to improve productivity. Some factors interfere with these indices, such as high milk production, nutritional management, pre and postpartum body score, heat stress and environmental factors. Thus, biotechniques move towards improving reproductive performance in the dairy sector, contributing to improvements in fertility rates. The present study compares the pregnancy rate, conception rate and gestational losses of dairy cows and heifers in the embryo transfer program. The observed data concluded that heifers have higher conception and pregnancy rates and lower losses than cows. These results may be justified by the fact that cows are high milk producing animals, which affects their reproductive performance.
